정지윤 작가는 유화를 그리는 작가이다. 주로 사진 이미지를 소재로 삼는다. 사진 속 대상들은 전시된 모습이다. 작가는 사진 속 정지된 대상들을 빠르고 변화가 많은 붓질로 표현한다. 때문에 그림이 마치 움직이는 것처럼 보인다. 그리고 어느 부분에서는 형태를 짐작하기 어려울 만큼 복잡한 붓질이 모여 추상회화와 같은 면모 도 볼 수 있다. 작가의 붓질은 형태를 따르기도 하면서 상관없이 움직이기도 하는 것으로 보인다. 붓질이 외곽선으로 인식되면서도 붓질 자체로도 인식된다. 작가는 작품의 소재를 외국의 웹사이트에서 수집한다고 한다. 선택되어 그려진 이미지를 보면 사람이 놓여있는 모습에 관심이 많은 것 같다. 다시 말하면 작가는 사진이 전 하는 정보보다는 사진 자체의 조형성을 찾아내는데 집중하는 것 같다. 그러면서 서사와 거리를 두고 건조한 태도로 그려낸다. 이러한 태도는 모노톤에 가까운 색감으로 그려내기 때문에 특징이 더욱 크게 드러난다. 컬러사진보다는 흑백사진에서 조형성이 더 두드러지듯 회화의 조형성 역시 정지윤 작가의 작품처럼 제한된 색감이 사용될 때 극대화된다. 작가는 이런 특징들을 이용해 명암의 대비를 적절히 조정하여 화면을 구성해 나간다. 그리고 그 구성에 맞춰 자유롭게 움직이는 붓질은 표현하는 대상에 기대기도, 밀어내기도 하며 일렁이는 표면을 만들어낸다.

Regardless of the subject, Jeong's brushstrokes seem to follow its form or movement. While they serve as outlines, they are also recognized as brushstrokes themselves. Jeong collects materials for her works from foreign websites and seems to be particularly invested in the placement of people in her selected and drawn images. She focuses on discovering the formal quality of the photo itself rather than the information it conveys, distancing herself from any narrative and approaching her work with a dry attitude. This attitude is highlighted in her use of colors, which is close to monotone. Just as black and white photographs tend to emphasize form more than color photographs, Jeong maximizes the formative quality of her paintings by using limited colors. By adjusting the contrast between light and shade in her composition, Jeong creates an undulating surface through her brushstrokes, which lean against or push the subject of expression. Overall, Jeong's paintings display a unique blend of representational and abstract qualities, emphasizing the formative quality of her subjects and the expressive potential of her brushstrokes.
